Kent Valley Adds Three More Summer Training Options

Adult Hockey Skills Clinic, Power Skating Clinic, Skate Like A Girl Power Skating Clinic

Kent Valley Ice Centre, Kent, WA., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 - Kent Valley Ice Centre added three more training options this week to its lineup of summer programs.  All three training opportunities are directed by Molly Doner, well known locally for her hockey and skating skills. The new summer programs are:

  • Adult Hockey Skills Clinic
  • Power Skating Clinic
  • Skate Like A Girl Power Skating Clinic 

Molly Doner is a former Division 1 Hockey player, she played for Miracle on Ice and former NHL player Mark Johnson and the Wisconsin Badgers from 2012-2016.  During that time, she made 3 Frozen Four appearances, won 2 WCHA Playoff Championships, 1 WCHA regular season Championship, and was awarded 2 Impact Awards for her community service efforts.  During her senior year, she was awarded the Badger Award – Most Inspiring Player – given to the player who inspires others through her commitment to hard work & unselfish play.

Adult Hockey Skills Clinic

Directed by Molly Doner

Designed for adult players – beginners to less than 5 years playing experience - or anyone who wants to learn more about the game and develop better skills & techniques, our Adult Hockey Skills Clinic will take you through a systematic progression, starting with skills development – including power skating, puck handling, shooting techniques, transitions, and backwards skating - and ending with tactical & game situations – including breakouts, fore-checking systems, defensive zone coverage, and puck-support.  The clinic meets once per week on Friday evenings to minimize conflicts with work & family and is intended help you achieve a greater understanding of the game and give you the tools to take your game to the next level!

Class Dates & topics: June 22 (Power Skating) 29 (Puck Handling).  

July 6 (Shooting) 13 (transitions/backwards) 20 (NO CLASS) 27 (Fore-checking).

August 3 (defensive zone/breakouts) 10 (puck support).

June 22nd thru Aug. 10th Fridays 5:45PM – 7:15PM

$200 for 7 weeks or $30 drop-in rate

Includes: 12 hours of ice time!

Power Skating Clinic

Directed by Molly Doner

More than any other skill, skating ability is cited as the most important single attribute that a hockey player can possess.  If you can’t skate well, you will struggle to advance in the game.    In order to improve your skating, you need the proper technique and lots of repetition.  In 8 short weeks, this program will teach you the proper techniques, drills, and skills that you need to become an excellent skater.  The class will cover edge control, stride technique & extension, the relationship between power and knee-bend, hockey turns, acceleration, crossovers, backwards technique, agility drills, balance, and much more.

Class Dates: June 21-28 July 5-12-19-26 Aug 2-(NO CLASS on 9th)-16 (last day)

June 21st thru Aug. 16th Thursdays 5:45PM-6:15PM*

Includes: 8 x 30-minute lessons *Plus includes admission to Stick & Puck session from 5:45PM - 7:15PM 12 hours of ice time!

$225 for 8 weeks or $32 drop-in rate

Skate Like A Girl Power Skating Clinic

Reminder! Early Bird Registration for the 2018-2019 hockey season has been open since May 1st.  Families who register before June 1st will be rewarded with the lowest rates for the season.  Rates will increase on June 1st.  Kent Valley’s registration rate structure is designed to reward early registration, so we can plan ahead for the season and make it easier on family budgets by spreading monthly payments over a longer period.  Register by May 31st and save!
