KVHA Parnership with SnoKing and Seattle Jr. in “Team Seattle” Strengthens Area Tier-I Program for PeeWee, Bantam & 16U Players
Kent Valley Ice Centre, Kent, WA. July 13, 2011 – The following is for the benefit of KVHA members who may have a PeeWee, Bantam or 16U player interested in pursuing Tier-I level hockey with Team Seattle. Team Seattle is a partnership between Kent Valley Hockey Association, Sno-King Amateur Hockey Association and Seattle Junior Hockey Association to provide top development and exposure opportunities for Puget Sound area players at the Tier-I level. The following is provided by Team Seattle:
As we enter and prepare for the 2011-12 season and a new stage of Tier-I hockey for the Seattle area with the operation of Team Seattle we wanted to inform you of some of the general results of the creation of this program. Here are some of the noticeable changes you should see for our inaugural season:
· An increase in the base registration fee to cover the actual costs of operating these teams. However a decrease in the overall cost of playing hockey thru defined team budgets and travel cost reductions. All teams will be given significant education on travel planning, tournament travel and new fundraising opportunities that will be open to all families. This will reduce the cost of playing hockey year to year and significantly over the life of our program peewee thru 16U. Even though our base registration fee will be higher, the overall result will be significantly lower to play with Team Seattle than in the past with just SKAHA/SJHA joint teams. We have plans to easily reduce the overall family costs to participate in "Team Seattle" in comparison to the joint teams of the past. Do not make an incorrect assumption just by an increase in the base registration fee that overall costs will be higher for these teams when the exact opposite is our plan.
· An increase in development opportunities and ice time over past year's and an increase in the overall quality of our program. In the past teams had 2 set team practices per week now opportunities exist to increase on-ice hours and off-ice training thru our "Team Seattle" program. On-ice video program for all teams and player development seminars on various subjects.
· Paid professional coaches with expectations that go along with that from Team Seattle. A paid Tier-I hockey coaches director and program oversight. This will result in a more consistent philosophy and program peewee thru midget. Furthermore, it will result in guest coaches at team practices and ongoing education opportunities for our coaches to develop professionally.
· Unified on-ice and off-ice gear plan to reduce the cost of needless equipment changes in the future after year one. All on-ice and off-ice gear is delegated from Team Seattle program and all teams are uniformed the same. The result is consistency thru our program with on-ice and off-ice gear and an overall reduction in these costs that varied team by team in the past depending on the coaching staff.
· Tournament travel that accomplishes either development or exposure, or both, for our players. Creating a travel plan that varies by age group to accomplish our program goals for our players not travelling for the sake of travelling. There are much different goals and reasons to travel that vary significantly from PeeWee thru 16U and these goals will be addressed to lower the overall cost to our families. This will result in a significant savings to our families in fixed travel costs as well as discretionary travel costs. Team Seattle leadership will be in direct contact with our team coaching staffs and managers to accomplish these goals.
In summary "Team Seattle" has an overall plan for our families and program PeeWee thru 16U that we are confident will reduce the cost of playing Tier-I hockey in our area and significantly increase our program quality at the same time. We addressed our fixed costs of providing these teams in our up front registration fees to provide our players with the best development program possible. Be assured we will address our overall cost of these teams and have a comprehensive program plan to reduce the overall costs of playing Tier-I hockey lower than it has been. This will be clearly explained to all our coaching staffs including a new fundraising plan for all teams that is simple and provides opportunity to cut playing costs even further. The cost of playing with "Team Seattle" will be lower overall next year than that of the joint teams of the past.
We understand the costs associated with playing high level athletics in any youth sport and are committed to make sure we are responsible with our overall program planning. This is critically important to us and we feel we have a great strategic plan to accomplish all the goals within.
